What is a .brd file

BRD is the most common boardview extension, and several unrelated formats share it: the binary Apple-style board file, the obfuscated binary BRD found on many laptop boards, the classic text BRD/BRD2 (BRDOUT, NETS, PARTS, PINS sections), Jet BRD and Zuken CR-5000/CR-8000 exports. BoardFix recognises which one you have by the file's contents, not by the name, so you do not need to know the variant.

How to open a .brd file in BoardFix

  1. Create a free account — viewing boards is free on every plan.
  2. Press “Open board” and pick the file. A ZIP, RAR or 7z archive works too: it is unpacked on the server.
  3. Search a part or a net, click a pin to light up its net, flip between the two sides of the board.

What you see

Every component with its outline and reference designator, every pin with its number and net, both sides of the board, search across parts and nets. A PDF schematic opens alongside the board.

Limits

Zuken CR-5000/CR-8000 files carry no net list and no component side — that is how the format is built, so those boards open as placement only. BRD_V1.0 files exported by the NextBV viewer are encrypted with a key held on that vendor's server and cannot be opened by any third-party viewer.

Ask about this board

The assistant answers about the board you have open: it reads its real components, pins and nets, so it names parts that exist on this board instead of guessing. Describe the symptom and your measurements — it says what to measure next. The AI has a free starting allowance; after that it needs a paid plan.
