What is a .cad file

CAD files in board repair are text exports from PCB design tools: GenCAD 1.4, Mentor Neutral, or Fabmaster Layout ASC (the one that starts with an A!REFDES header). BoardFix detects which of the three you have and builds the same interactive view from any of them: components, pins and nets on both sides.

How to open a .cad file in BoardFix

  1. Create a free account — viewing boards is free on every plan.
  2. Press “Open board” and pick the file. A ZIP, RAR or 7z archive works too: it is unpacked on the server.
  3. Search a part or a net, click a pin to light up its net, flip between the two sides of the board.

What you see

Every component with its outline and reference designator, every pin with its number and net, both sides of the board, search across parts and nets. A PDF schematic opens alongside the board.

Ask about this board

The assistant answers about the board you have open: it reads its real components, pins and nets, so it names parts that exist on this board instead of guessing. Describe the symptom and your measurements — it says what to measure next. The AI has a free starting allowance; after that it needs a paid plan.
